Decision-Making Approach that Assumes Change
HRR views the climate and natural environment, as well as the operating environment surrounding our businesses, as changing over time, rather than being fixed from fiscal year to fiscal year.
Based on the assumption that these changes will occur, we make decisions based on the concept of what to continuously observe, how to update design and operations when changes occur, and how to review to see if the decisions made were appropriate.
This is not a framework for establishing short-term measures, but a basic approach that underpins our decisions and operational direction over a medium-term time horizon.
In addition, in HRR, environmental performance is visible as the results of our response to risks and opportunities related to climate change and the natural environment, and it is not subject to management as a specific numerical target or single indicator.
On the other hand, we continuously monitor indicators such as energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions as a means of understanding the results of our efforts, and use this information as a basis for decision-making and updating design and operational practices.
We periodically check and update this approach as necessary in accordance with the timing of reviews of the TCFD, etc., in light of changes in assumptions surrounding climate change and the natural environment.
Specific details of our environmental performance are explained in the “Environmental Initiatives” section.
